FREEWAY DESIGN
- Freeways allow unimpeded traffic flow because they do not cross at the same level as conventional roads or with railways. Thus, there is no conflict in driving. In other words, vehicles are always moving in one-way lanes. In the case of road or railways intersecting with freeways, they must be designed at a different level. As a result, the number of construction items along the freeway (such as underpasses, overpasses, etc.) is extremely large.
- Freeways also require emergency lanes. An emergency lane is as much an important part of the freeway as a special lane. In standard specifications, the design requirements of the lanes are completely different from those of the lane or shoulder of a normal road. Therefore, with specialized features in ADSCivil Road, the design of these lanes is both easy to implement and control.
- The entrance ramps of freeways are strictly controlled. Vehicles enter and exit freeways by using merging or overlapping lanes. The exits and entrance ramps allow the drivers to change speeds between the freeway and the normal road. Therefore, to ensure smooth traffic flow, it is necessary to design complex transition curves connected by many different curves and the superelevation in these curves.

URBAN ROAD DESIGN
- Urban road design is one of the special cases of road design. In designing urban roads, there are always limitations on boundaries, space, and time for project implementation. Therefore, controlling the project site is always a top priority.
- On urban roads, intersections appear frequently and continuously. It requires ADSCivil Road to have an automatic connection and synchronization with ADSCivil Intersection to ensure data consistency during the design process.
- Surface water drainage in urban roads is also a problem that needs special attention because most of the longitudinal profile slope of the road is zero. The drainage to the manholes relies entirely on the roadside ditch adjustment in the longitudinal profile design. It is fully solved by ADSCivil Road with its longitudinal profile combining ditch design.
- Arrangement of infrastructure system including rainwater drainage, wastewater drainage, water supply, technical trenches (power supply, communication cables, etc.) is also a specialty of urban road design. To meet the requirement, ADSCivil Road adds a series of features, allowing inserting, referring to shaped component structures or synchronizing the drainage network with ADSCivil Sewer, which can design multiple pipes using the same excavation pit.
MOUNTAINOUS ROAD DESIGN
- Natural terrain with steep slopes is typical characteristic of mountainous roads. In order to reduce the amount of excavation and backfilling and to properly coordinate with the current surface, it is imperative to arrange the alignment with many steep curves, even if it means using the complex compound-reverse curve, which is not recommended. At that time, the design of superelevation on the plan must be paid special attention to avoid the phenomenon of "superelevation torsion". With the superelevation scheme, ADSCivil Road has geometricalized the superelevation variation of the pavement, making the superelevation clear and easy to control.
- The typical mountainous road often excavates through many geological layers. Each of them has different physico-mechanical parameters, leading to different slope stability. Therefore, it is necessary to design a talus slope that varies across geological layers. ADScivil Road not only responds to slope changes, but also allows automatic declaration of talus terrace to enhance stability in the event of deep excavations.
- Ensuring visibility in the curve is also one of the important features of ADSCivil Road. In particular, in mountain road design, the complex terrain conditions and various obstacles are available. The ray tracing feature ensures comprehensive dealing with multiple consecutive curves. Combining the synchronization of ray tracing data on the simulation model in ADSCivil VPV, it thoroughly solves the problem of ensuring visibility (taking into account the factor of vertical and horizontal curves and even obstacles).
- The unit cost of earthwork also requires the excavated volume calculation according to different geological layers. With more than 1000 area codes, complete with up to eight geological layers, ADSCivil Road perfectly meets the requirements of all road projects with the most complex geological.
UPGRADING AND RENOVATION DESIGN OF EXISTING ROADS
For developing countries, with economic growth day by day, the transport networks must be developed rapidly and strongly on a large scale. The quickly developing transportation systems throughout the country partly put the economy under great pressure on investment capital. In order to solve this problem, developing countries should simultaneously combine new construction and upgrading and renovation of existing ones to gradually synchronize modern transportation systems. This divergent investment must be sure to utilize most of the construction built in the previous stage.
To meet the above specific requirements, ADSCivil Road offers special features for designing, upgrading, and renovating the existing route:
- Construct the road pavement by controlling the width of the existing pavement.
- Expand pavement to keep the current slope.
- Construct the pavement structure with a fixed thickness.
- Suggest new central line elevation to ensure minimal filling layer.
The features for the existing road renovation design can be combined with the survey report of the old road damage (in ADSCivil Survey). They form a synchronous and self-contained solution for maintenance and assurance work in route operation.
